The following is a guest post in the form of an open letter from Special Olympics athlete and global messenger John Franklin Stephens to Ann Coulter after this tweet during last night’s Presidential debate.

Dear Ann Coulter,

Come on Ms. Coulter, you aren’t dumb and you aren’t shallow.  So why are you continually using a word like the R-word as an insult?

I’m a 30 year old man with Down syndrome who has struggled with the public’s perception that an intellectual disability means that I am dumb and shallow.  I am not either of those things, but I do process information more slowly than the rest of you.  In fact it has taken me all day to figure out how to respond to your use of the R-word last night.

I thought first of asking whether you meant to describe the President as someone who was bullied…

That was a super appropriate response to the always offensive A C.

    Thanks.

Yes! I totally agree. And the good news is that the mainstream press picked up this story and ran with it yesterday. She’s revolting.

Andrea….Thought you ran away and joined the circus. Happy to see a new post and hope all is well with you and family. How brave and sincere this young man writing to Coulter. Ms Coulter is one of the reasons why the Catholic Church still performs exorcism. Trying to keep in mind our 1st amendment rights hurts my head. She is one of the most destructive people of modern times not only affecting the Republican Party but women as well. People like her with constant media access will keep our country divided. Unfortunately Mr Stephen’s letter will enrage her further and will garner more media time for her nonsense.

On a lighter note: I hope you will find the time to continue posting great stuff. Everything is good on this side. We had a wonderful summer nut never saw Fall….we went straight to winter. The fishing in the PNW was so good this year I filled my freezer as well as my employees getting salmon bonuses! Speaking of bonuses: Through the worst of times over the last three years we have been able to keep 150 people employed without a layoff. Economic projections say 2013 will be pretty flat but will not affect employee status.

Hey DP! So good to hear from you! I feel like I DID join the circus!!! I left my job at the university and started working as an Instructional Design consultant – for myself, virtually (home office). It’s been a really great move for me, but has taken some getting used to.

So, yes, all is good with me, I’m very happy; content and busy. However, what I am not content with is what is going on in politics these days. The money that’s being spent, the lies and the attacks. I feel like this generation, should we end up with Romney for the next 4 years, is going to be very very sorry. I feel that if this country votes Romney in, the Supreme Court as we know it, will cease to exist.

There’s so much at stake and I just cannot stand people like Ann Coulter who are sick enough to fan the flames of complete and utter discrimination! Too many people buy into the propaganda of the Fixed News Network and just cannot accept the fact that Fixed News exists solely to spout right-wing propaganda! How can people not see this??? It’s not complicated, really, or is it? Oh dear…. enough said, I suppose… :)

I’m so happy to hear that your business is thriving! good for you! It will take this country more time to get out of the mess created by the Bushies.. We will recover, if Obama is elected. If not, well… it will be sad and so many will be harmed – just my opinion, of course!

      I’m fired up!!!
