letting it go!

by Andrea O'Connell

“Gimme a head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair…..” Hair lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado

Yes, this was as long as I needed to grow it, and now I’m letting it go.

I’ve been growing my hair for two years for the express purpose of donating it to the non-profit group Locks of Love

This group accepts hair donations for state-of- the-art wigs for children who have lost their hair as a result of illness.

This series of photos shows the hair donation as well as the great new hair cut I got!  (It feels nice knowing that a part of me will be giving comfort to a sick child.)

This is the first “before” shot in the series:

 Second “before” shot

Hair in hand!  Surreal…

Hair in Hand! Deed is done...LOL!

Back view of new “do” (quite an improvement!)

New do view from back!

And finally, me with Robin, my stylist. (The salon is “Tango” in Pompano Beach, Florida.)

Robin and I, the final look!

Robin handled everything for me.  She has worked extensively with Locks of Love, and handled the donation for me.  You know, sometimes the universe hands you people like Robin, out of the blue, to help and guide you with such good will, good cheer, and care.

Thanks Robin, and all the folks at Tango – You are awesome!!!!!!

Thank you for your comment, F.C…. I appreciate that. I have to admit, it feels really good to know that a small part of me will end up making a sick child feel better about themselves, or prettier, or more confident, or secure….
