we’ve lost her

by Andrea O'Connell

Elizabeth Edwards has died.  Only 61.  Breast cancer. Insidious. It. Spread.

Oh why were you kept on the chemotherapy treatments up until your time to go, Elizabeth?    I suppose it was your choice, but it seems cruel for your doctors to have done this to you.

You must have been suffering great pain.

You’re free now.  But we’re left with the pain of your going.   So desperately sad you’ve left us.

You will be missed, Elizabeth.  Your brilliance, your warmth, and your wit lives on in the hearts of so many of us who looked to you as a role model.  But oh how you will be missed.

Goodnight Elizabeth, and may Wade sing you lullabies now.
