waving to WESH – where’s the beef?

by Andrea O'Connell

I find it odd that WESH news would publish an article on their web site today that boasts the headline: New Deposition Released in Case Against Casey Anthony and not publish the deposition.

They are rabid for new stories about this case; they are frenetically driven to get any Anthony story before WFTV does.  When Kathi Bellich was on leave recently for a couple of weeks, WESH dug its heels in the sand and fought to be the first to report any tidbit of news.  I have come to rely on them for this reason.  They have been on top of the news about this case like no other.

But today’s story – a total non-story, leaves out the most important aspect: The deposition!  Why publish a story telling us a deposition has been released and fail to produce it?  That’s like advertising a free All-You-Can-Eat Steak buffet but only offering mashed potatoes or rice.  Where’s the beef?

The deposition in question is of Texas EquuSearch volunteer William Fitzgerald that was taken on February 2 of this year. The focus of the depo is the Texas EquuSearch records and I believe it was a defense deposition, I am almost certain of it.

Did the Defense feed this little bit of news to WESH?   If so, why?   And, why would WESH think this non story news worthy?

Does the Defense want the public to know that Baez “repeatedly asked” about Texas EquuSearch records and who created a list of volunteers?  The only information in the piece is the quote below:

During the deposition, Anthony defense attorney Jose Baez repeatedly asked Fitzgerald who had access to the documents and who participated in coming up with a list of volunteers who helped search the Suburban Drive area, where Caylee’s remains were later found.

Those of us following this case know that there has been no news at all this week; is WESH so hungry for news they would publish non-news?

Even the “Caylee Daily” website who publishes literally everything that WESH publishes, had this story on their site for about an hour and then took it down.

I don’t get it.  Do you?

Andrea, I found it very odd too that there was not a link to this depostion. I love your title by the way and I want some beef with my taters. It may have been a deposition done by the state and Baez sat in on it. The defense are allowed to ask questions when the state deposes someone. The whole news item leaves one dangling in mid air.

One other thing, we are not privy to read the depositions taken by the defense. Or am I wrong?

Hi Jonathon! I’m glad you understand why I feel it’s so odd.
You’re right, the defense has no obligation to release their material to the public record. And, you’re probably right, that it was perhaps a depo done by the state that was released, but they usually release things in bunches, not piece-meal… it’s just a bit strange… LOL! Just a slow news day! 🙂

I too wondered where the transcript was also.
Perhaps it’ll come out soon, I hope unless Baez has something he doesn’t
want everyone to see, which isn’t unusual for him. He’s done it before.

Hi Andrea. Note to WESH; drink coffee, type post, reread then post. HA! I did the same thing, scrolled down, looked around, hit F5 and not a stinking thing! I want my money back!

Hi Swift Justice! LOL! I hear ya… I was still looking today and tonight, too, for any sign of this mysterious depo! But, I will say, WESH came through today with the goods on the story about all the rulings on the defense motions. So, they’re okay in my book again! 🙂

Hi Carol – I must be really tired because I mistakenly wrote a response to your response, thinking it was to Swift Justice! Oy!

Anyway, to Swift Justice….I agree, if Baez is has something in this transcript that he is not too proud of, perhaps he’s trying to lessen the blow when it does finally come out? I don’t understand this one! We’ll have to just wait and see, I suppose, for the next doc dump because it may be in there….

I am with you all the way on this one.

    Where is the depo?

I am also dying to see the video of Cheney Mason laying into Kathi Belich after a recent hearing. I know it’s a different station, but didn’t all the stations have cameras running at the time?

Hey Bullstopper! Thank you for visiting! I am a huge fan of your blog and read every single post, though I’ve only commented a couple of times….

Anyway, yes, it’s such an odd story…. I checked earlier today to see if maybe they’d realize something was missing and correct it, but nope, still missing the beef!

Oh, I’d sure like to see that video of Mason with Kathi Belich, too. In fact, one of the stories published (I believe it was Hal Boedker’s) mentioned the entire statement – the lovely sentiment that fell trippingly off Mason’s tongue actually ended with “…you’re a pain in the a$$!” I contend that their defense is a horse of that color!!
