I don’t see Pink Elephants, Mr. Baez

by Andrea O'Connell

There was just one short moment today when I could tune in to today’s Frye Hearing in the State v. Casey Anthony.  I know that a few very interesting experts testified today. Among those testifying today was Dr. Barry Logan, Dr. David Hall, and Dr. Jane Bock.

I was able to sneak a listen into today’s hearing for less than five minutes, and what did I hear?  A discussion from Mr. Baez about Pink Elephants in the room.  According to Mr. Baez, a Pink Elephant was in the room, but was being ignored by everyone.  After making that statement to the court, Judge Belvin Perry had the most beautiful retort!  He said, “I don’t see Pink Elephants, Mr. Baez.”  That was all that I heard, and I thought – Wow!  This must be a very, very interesting hearing!

That was really all I was able to see, unfortunately.  But, I did hear about the defense wanting to claim the chloroform could have come from a swimsuit of Caylee’s left in the trunk of the car.  That’s a bit of a stretch, to put it mildly.

My favorite attorney analyst, Bill Sheaffer, made one very telling remark.  He said, in essence, the defense argued today with a sledge hammer, and the State used a scalpel.  In addition, he concluded that the State should prevail in their effort to allow the results of Dr. Arpad Vass, from the Oak Ridge Laboratories.  If this should occur, it will be a tremendous advantage for the State as it scientifically confirms the smell of decomposition, that so many will testify to. The science will seal it.  Bill Sheaffer said:

The prosecutor will show there’s no debate in the scientific community that Dr. Vass’s methodology and findings are not generally accepted.

In addition, he concluded that other evidence will prove there was a decompositional event in the trunk – cadaver dogs indicated it was there, Casey Anthony’s family, and others, also confirmed the horrible scent.

I would like to extend a very special thanks to CptKD, a reader of the blog, who so graciously reported through out the day on the happenings in the courtroom.

CptKD also advised that Judge Perry should have his rulings rendered by April 21st, if not before.

There are more hearings on Friday, beginning at 9:00.

Have a lovely night, all.

Andrea, I thought Dr David Hall was not a Frye issue. I understood that Judge Perry ruled that Dr Hall would be able to give his opinions at the trial and could be cross examined. Did the defense file another motion re requesting that Dr Hall testify at the Frye hearing and Judge Perry Granted it? I am a bit confused here.

Hi Jonathon…. It is very confusing! The defense wanted to challenge him via Frye is my understanding now and the judge granted the motion to allow it. So, I believe now that it is a Frye issue. I hope someone will correct me if I’m wrong!

Wow….does Baez have no humility?? When he said to Judge Perry, “I’m very proud of myself for being able to say that word”, I nearly fell off my chair. I mean….WTH?? LOL! It’s like getting a gold star on our collar in the 1st grade when we win the spelling bee.

Baez was trying to be funny. I wonder if HHJP likes seeing the levity in the courtroom when the case is about a murdered toddler.

Thank you for the wonderful praises, but as I mentioned in my responses in the previous post, I am NOT good at doing the COURT REPORTER thing-a-ma-jiggy. I am much more versed in Investigative writings. . . Anyways, when I tried to return to re-hear some of the vids, my pc has no sound. I can only listen live. Thinkin my pc will never be the same. . sheesh. Being that this is and was the case, I was and am unable to review various claims. I DID tho, read about inmate asking bout sticker to Mason

      Venice and Cali Patti –

Let’s just hope the Jury sees him for what her REALLY is…

I read Dr. Lillian Glass’ blog today, and she seems to think that Jose Baez is really likeable right off the bat, and coming out of the gate.
That his manner of dress and overall decorum can be quite soothing and endearing….

      She says:
“He is likeable and presents himself well., he is well spoken, has a very soothing and calming voice, and dresses extremely well with well fitting suits, silk ties and matching pocket squares.”

She blames his behaviour in court the other day on RED BULL!

      Can you believe this?

      RED BULL?

Other than a few things, that she believes that he absolutely must do and change, she views him as being “calm, cool and collected”

I dont know so much about that –

Seems to me, when I see him and/or watch him, that he is incredibly annoying…

I find NOTHING endearing about him, and I couldn’t care less if his tie matches his puff…

I find his behaviour attrocious most times, resembling that of an infantile, and look out if he doesn’t get his way – Then he wines and pouts just like a 2 and 1/5 year old…

      Yeah!
      That’s some man!

I find him rude to the people around him, and ignorant to the fact that he is distracting and obnoxious in his courtrrom routine.

If he must play games with other folks, for example by clicking his pen, and then doing it more because someone has asked him to stop –

Then that is being nothing more than CHILDISH!

I’m sorry, but even the children I know through my nieces and nephews dont behave like that.
      And they ARE children!

It truly reflects badly, and really stresses that he totally has NO CASE!

HE’s playing games, while someone else’s life is on the line.

      That’s real professional – That’s a REAL attorney!

He seems to carry himself, as though he is better than any other individual, in and/or out of that courthouse –

Even the folks at his special D-Table, are BENEATH him.
I think he must see himself as some sort of God-like figure. That or, a KING – Yeah – That’s it!
      A K I N G . . .

He is even ABOVE HHJP, don’t you know?

Man, I really hate to bust his bubble – LOL!
But the man is definately LACKING in some areas.

      Make that many, many areas…

And I feel deep in the core of my belly, that he is the most in-congruent, unstable and untrustable individual that Inmate Anthony could have chosen for herself –

I mean – This IS serious!

You’d have to PAY ME to have him as my attorney…

I’d choose to represent myself –

      Heck, I’d use a Public Defender –

Worse case scenario, I’d get my 10 yr old nephew to stand up in court on my behalf –

Hell would have to freeze right over, before I would EVER, EVER, EVER, choose Jose Baez to advocate on my behalf!

      I think I’d rather drown,
than be caught on his pathetic, sinking vessel…

Let’s just hope the Jury sees him for what her REALLY is…

        Apologies all around!

        Ooops!
        Found another typo –
        “resembling that of an infantile”…
Yes, you know it – I meant to say “..that of an infant..”
Sorry for the errors and for taking up more room…

        Glad to hear that!
Sometimes, it seems like I’m writing NOVELS on your blog…
I always feel like I’m taking up sooooo much space that it’s going to impede others from responding –
I take it, that it doesn’t quite work that way, eh?

At least I hope not, seeing as I’m at it again – LOL!

      • Apr 7 2011

LOL! My goodness, can it be that you don’t like Jose Baez?!

Just kidding! I read the Dr. Glass article as well. It could be that she’s trying to avoid any issues with him down the road as they do the talk-show circuit when this circus is over. I have no doubt that Jose will be on TV often once this case concludes…. I bet she will, too. I don’t agree with anything she said pertaining to Jose’s ability in the courtroom, but I have a feeling she’s going out of her way to be politically correct.

      • CptKD
        Apr 8 2011

I get the whole ‘Politically Correct’ thing, but really –

Who does she think she’s fooling with articles written as such?

Not fooling me, not for one minute!

And judging from what I’ve seen and read at other blogs, news reports, and Analysts commentaries, she’s not foooling any of them either.

She’d be better off not saying anything, because in my opinion, making these kinds of observations about HIM, is not going to go far with the people that know so differently. Those that have had to work along side of him… That have witnessed the opposite of the praises she’s singing out for him.

I love, and always read her blog –

But honestly, this made me think twice about HER and her ‘body language’ analysis for this man.
As correct as she usually is, I found it completely idiotic to see her blame his nonsense on RED BULL.

        That to me is BULL!

I think she’s far off the mark on the whole Baez read.

Other than her comments as to what he NEEDS to change, and quickly at that, I have absolutely no concept as to how she came to find Baez to be so endearing…

        Talk show circuit or not!

One day she WILL be called upon to explain this, and then she is going to look like a real idiot.

Saying one thing to appease HIM, when in reality, her comments are enough to piss off many others who have seen and been witness to the REAL ‘Jose-Clown’, up close and personal.

        Ask Linda Drane-Burdick?
        Ask Ashton?
        Heck, ask HHJP?

I garuantee, they will all beg to differ….

I know Jose Baez dropped out of school in the ninth grade; however he must known that there is a spell-check on Power Point. On his Presentation to the court yesterday, he wrote: FRYE ANANLYSIS, instead of FRYE ANALYSIS. Simon Barrett has a picture of the Power Point board on his web site. Barrett stated that he hoped this slide was not indicative of the overall quality of the defenses trial preparations. Good for Baez the pompous ass.

    • Apr 7 2011

Oh no!!! That’s just horrible. Perhaps it was not Mr. Baez who created the slides…? I just can’t believe he would be that bad of a speller, after all, he managed to pass the Bar, and law school…. Regardless, it’s terribly embarrassing. I don’t doubt the jury would look at something like that careless mistake, and subconsciously think the defense doesn’t really care about their case….That is so blatantly bad, it’s embarrassing! Gawd…thanks for this, Rob….LOL, I hadn’t seen this!

Well I for one won’t be throwing stones from this glass house as I make many errors myself when typing and not proofing because I’m either too tired or lazy to do it. I know this place is not the same as Court, but I hope the jury isn’t going to be marking papers on that score. They are supposed to be listening to the testimony. As long as the spelling doesn’t change the meaning of the word, I don’t see what harm there is. With so much hate going on, you would think it was Jose himself who killed little Caylee. Let’s keep the disgust where it belongs shall we.

Hi Andrea: I heard last night that NG is going to devote her entire show tonight to Casey’s timeline, etc. If I can stand listening to her for an hour, I might watch, but others might be interested. Usually, after 15 minutes or so, I can’t take her and go channel-surfing for something more civil. It might just be a rehash of stuff we already know though.

Good I find NG a real one of a kind person. You either hate her or like her, there’s no grey colours in her palette. Atleast someone is standing up for those that can’t. She portrays herself as a Detective but slips into Prosecutorial habits, that kind of piss people off. The only time she REALLY BUGS me is when she is rude to the Lawyers but they just laugh her off knowing it’s part of the gig of her show. I will be watching. It’s Jane Valez’s voice that I have hard time with. Just saying the YELLER makes it impossible to listen.

I’m wondering if it’s just JVM’s and NG’s on screen personas. A couple of weeks ago, JVM was on another of my favorite classy shows “The Soup” and was a lot of fun. Also, last week The Soup handed out their annual Soup Can awards and NG showed up to accept hers and seemed quite likeable. I think, too, that the attorneys who go on her show have a pretty good idea of what to expect so take it in their stride. The same ones keep coming back, so it can’t be all that bad and, I suppose, they’re getting national exposure. Go figure.

Yea Jon, Haven’t you seen how the Lawyers snicker and laugh at Nancy, cause they know her so well. This is their banter for catch me if you can, and it looks like a game to me. Those hard nosed Lawyers don’t have woosy feelings about much, so it’s all in fun just to prove a point/s on her questions. When she says you’re not Joe, did I ask you that? She’s posturing to the camera, and so goes the legal banter. If it was too boring noone would watch. she likes to bafoon them and herself. funny woman in my opinion. You just have to stretch your imagination and step outside the box. She’ s seen it all and felt the loss of her murdered fiancee. I Think people should give her a huge break.

I swa NG last night with the recap. Only thing new was her take on the length of time that Caylee lay in the woods. she brought in an expert to substantiate her point, that the body had not been moved for a long period of time (4 months or more), due to the colour of the vegetation under the bag (experiments were done). The rest we knew from the hearings.
