Can We STOP the 48 Hours Show?

by Andrea O'Connell

I had every intention to write a post about the wonderful news that Yuri Melich is a finalist in the America’s Most Wanted All Star contest – such wonderful news – however, I am fighting mad about this 48 Hours show!

Well, before my 48 Hours rant, I do want to say how great it is that folks all over the Internet – from blogs, forums and chat-rooms – came together to vote for Yuri!  Hal Boedeker said it best, “He has so many fans that he is a finalist in “America’s Most Wanted” All-Star contest.”   Indeed, Yuri has endeared himself to many of us.  We are witness that he never wavered in his commitment to Caylee.  For that I know we are collectively, and profoundly, thankful.

I would be remiss not to express gratitude to John Allen, Eric Edwards, Appie Wells, the late Michael Erickson, and many others – too many to name – who went above and beyond in their search for justice for Caylee, who lost her life before she knew she had a life to live.

48 Hours of Defense Excuses

Many of us are raging mad at CBS’ 48 Hours show for airing a program about the Anthony case that features: Jose Baez, Linda Kenney Baden, Kobilinsky, Cindy and George Anthony, and others partial to the defense of this case.

If you’re unaware of the show (airing Saturday, April 16th), here is the link to the trailer of the 48 Hours show:  48 Excuses

However, those of us who are passionate for justice for Caylee are a formidable group – we have a strong voice, and we can use it.

Remember how we all came together to get the Anthony’s off of the Oprah Winfrey show?  I believe we can do it again!   If we bombard CBS with strong feedback, we can get this show canceled, or at least postponed until AFTER the trial has concluded.

Therefore, leave your criticism and comments here:  Feedback link: http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/feedback/fb_news_form.shtml?tag=ftr

It is not just the fact that the show will clearly be slanted toward the defense; it’s not entirely about the probable profits from the show; for me it’s mostly about the fact that the trial is less than a month away and this show could taint potential jurors.  I have no doubt this is a ploy to either delay,  or create appellate issues when the defense later cries about not being able to find impartial jurors.

I am not suggesting that this show will in anyway help the defense team; there is nothing under the sun that will help them at this point.  What I am suggesting is the fact that this is a sly trick to generate more sensationalism, which always benefits the defense.

We need CBS to postpone this show AND to recognize the case is about Caylee.  Period.

This is a desperate attempt by a defense team aware they’ve lost before they’ve even begun.  If this defense team had a modicum of ethics or ethical behavior, they would not embrace a guilty client in this way; they would not scratch and fight to win at all costs; fighting for innocence when it’s clearly a lie.

An ethical defense would be zealous, passionate, committed to acting on the right side of the law. But, this defense’s slithering snake-like approach is like an assault on our system of justice and practice of law.

Our voting for Yuri in the American Most Wanted All-Star contest won’t begin again until April 21st.  So, lets collectively take the time to bombard CBS and do our utmost to convince them to postpone or cancel the 48 Hours episode scheduled to air April 16th.

We are a force.  We can do it.

Thank you dear. I have written my view on this terrible injustice. But I was nice about it. I didn’t speak my REAL FEELINGS about this.

I can’t remember who said it but the show should be postponed until after the jury is seated. Then they will be sequestered and there will be no problems or excuses for an appeal. I made my comment in the “suggestions” part of the feedback instead of the “complaints” part suggesting they take this route.

I hope everyone who sends CBS their imput will do so decently. No name calling or degrading of the show/network and, for pete’s sake, no threatening to never watch the show/network again! Frankly, we are less than a drop in the bucket to them so we wont make a dent in their ratings if we carry out the threat.

I hope all the blogs will send out this word to their commentors. I believe we can make a difference. I also heard that HHJP might be able to do something? I forget who said that but it would be nice if he could get the show’s airing postponed.

Hey Sherry, Yours is the wonderful voice of reason. Yes, our words must not be flagrant, but diplomatic and FIRM! You’re right – with all the millions of viewers, we won’t hurt their ratings too much, but I hope we hurt and wake up their conscience! It’s good you made a “suggestion” I did, too. I also was very firm, but civil, in my complaint, too. 🙂

I have been reading this blog for a long time now and love your writings ! I’ve just never taken the time to participate. But I feel the need to jump in here on this subject.

I saw this advertisement for 48 Hours last week and it flabbergasted me ! I cannot for the life of me figure out how this would be fair, possibly even legal this close to trial. I definitely think it may taint a juror(s).

I have sent one email to CBS, but am sending another. I was so glad to see that you wrote concerning this, as IMO, it is so wrong.

Addie, Many thanks for your kind words, and for your help! I saw the add this weekend, too. I was shocked…. couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I agree with you, it’s so wrong on so many levels.

After having troubles with our home pc and the internet access provided through that computer, I have finally set us up in a temporary mode, (Using my old pc) so that I can still access all that I need to know before trial time.

I had heard about this after watching the old 48Hours episode on this case.

Like yourselves – I am angry about this new episode slated for this coming wknd.

Being that you have the link listed above, I will head over there now, and tactfully address the issues I have over this airing right before trial time!

Thanks for keeping us on the ball, Andrea!

Voting for Yuri the last couple wks,
and now, expressing our dis-satisfaction for CBS and this 48Hours segment.

    Never a dull moment, eh!

Andrea, if you noticed I mention the 48 Hour show over at Jon’s after WATCHING a Anthony show over the weekend that was totally slanted. The host did say that asked the proscecution for a comment and they declined.
The closest 48 Hours came to pushing Cindy was to ask if she was in denial (huh, if your in denial would you know it?) and how Caseys friend’s contradict Cindy on Casey being close to Cindy. Cindy went on and on how close she and Casey were.
Is this the program you are discussing?
I went over and checked out the comments on the 48 Hour blog and they were mostly slanted against the 48 show, its content of the Anthony show and CBS.
Again, is this same show or are they airing a NEW Anthony show?
It was very slanted in the Anthonys favor. I always enjoyed 48 Hours and now I will always be looking for bias in their reporting

Andrea, I made sure I left my Comments for CBS and the upcoming Segment on 48 Hrs.
What a shame it is, every one wants to cash in on the Murder Victim Caylee Marie. Seems to me the only ones which aren’t profiting from this Case is the Prosecution and the State who are the Voice for the Victim Caylee and the Truth. May true Justice in this Case prevail! RIP sweet Caylee Marie. We won’t forget You, Justice for You is coming…
    BTW great Post Andrea! 😉

      Yay Hilde!
I tell you what, when money talks, the brain walks… CBS is despicable; clearly they are creating drama for the sake of ratings and money – but if we bombard their sponsors with how we feel about them, CBS may have to take notice.

What CBS should be doing is focus on Caylee – put her story out there, not false trash. Yes, justice is coming despite these despots – these villainous money hungry squirrels…….. grrrrrrrrrr

I too went over to CBS’s website and left them some comments about tainting the jury pool. I made my husband and both my daughters do it too.

I saw the preview this weekend and played it back for my husband. I was pretty angry and my husband was incredulous that they would try to subvert justice by tainting the jury pool.

Hi Yo! Wonderful! The more we talk about justice, the more we’ll hammer it into their pea brains. It’s all about money. Bravo to your husband and daughter! Everyone I’ve told about this situation says the same thing as they said, “how could they do this in good conscience?” It escapes me.
I have new words for CBS, but they are not nice: Crap, Bullxxxx, and Shxx Television.

apparently one of the regular posters on the other site has a friend that works at CBS on Survivor-and there is all kinds of excitement going on in the news section. She posted that we “may” have a statement tomorrow-who knows what that means but it cannot be good for them.

How can CBS says 48 hrs will only be about the science, when there will be no chemist, scientist, etc on the show. And why show a mock jury and their vote to acquit if it really is just about science. I do not believe CBS paid a scientist to explain in great detail about the evidence , the test results and what it all means to this mock jury. I think money, ratings, and tainting the potential jury is exactly what this is about. I have already e-mailed CBS. I googled CBS sponsors and have all of their names and will be boycotting each and everyone. Sorry everyone I am very angry about this. And I had to vent. Thanks for listening

Perhaps Dr. Koblinsky <— spell check………who is always on the Nancy Grace show. Well he use to be on there all the time. And he switches his statements as much as Casey or Dr. Henry WEE meant Lee…. does
