Hearing today, 5/2, 9:30 am

by Andrea O'Connell

There is a status and motion hearing scheduled this morning, at 9:30 am.   Presumably, one of the attorney’s on each side will learn of where jury selection will be.

Can you imagine?!  We are so close to justice… a couple of short weeks away from the start of the trial, so long in coming!

Justice is on its way for little Caylee!

Does anyone know what Baez’s reasons are for not wanting cameras?

Hi Kim, he said that at a recent hearing out of the blue. I think his reasoning at the time was to end the video in the courtroom. It’s a joke, IMO, considering the 48 hours show that had just aired and the up-coming In Session shows that Mr. Baez will star in.

Casey Anthony walked into the Orange County courtroom at 9:25am, wearing a lavender shirt and gray slacks. Her hair was pulled back into a bun. Casey’s mother Cindy Antony was also in attendance.
Judge Perry talked about the confidentiality agreement to one of Casey’s defense attorneys saying, “There is nothing, ma’am, in that agreement which would prohibit any news station if they found from independent sources, in broadcasting the location. They just can’t do it based upon what was told by the court.
So there is nothing in there which prohibits any news station from using whatever sources, whatever means they want to from finding the location if they can in broadcasting.
So this agreement does not prohibit them from independent source.
The only source that is prohibited is if they sign it and I tell them where the location is,” said Judge Perry.

Casey cried just before Judge Perry ruled on the motion.

At 10:31am, Casey, along with her defense team and prosecutors, gathered inside a jury room in private to discuss what Judge Perry called “housekeeping” issues in the case.

Perry may also rule on whether jurors will hear what could be damning evidence against Casey.

In just one week, jury selection will begin for her trial.

Perry may rule on air tests that indicate there were traces of human remains in the back of Casey’s car on Monday.

Last week, the prosecution scored a series of victories with the judge ruling key evidence can be shown to jurors. But at least one critical issue remains, the state wants to introduce tests on air samples taken from Casey’s trunk.

Prosecutors say they show signs of human decomposition, aiding the state’s theory that Casey killed her daughter and kept the body in the trunk before dumping it. But the defense has asked the judge to block the prosecution from introducing the tests in trial.
Casey’s lawyers say the science behind them is unreliable.

The tests, which were conducted at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, and have never before been used in a trial.

Casey goes to trial May 9. She’s accused of killing her daughter Caylee and dumping the body in the woods near her parents’ home.

*Again, this was one of those hearings where most time was spent behind closed doors.
Upon returning to court, things were adjourned…

At one point, HHJP spoke to Cindy, but it is unknown what he said to her as mics were turned off….?
Perhaps she spoke out, and he set her straight?????

        You are most welcome, Andrea!

I woke up late this morning, after a terrible and nasty night of no sleep, and so I missed most of the hearing…

I’m sure that WFTV will have the vids up soon enough, so everyone can actually have a watch at what transpired…

I’m getting that nervous feeling in my belly…
Time to get this ball a’rollin…

What was Casey crying about? Any guesses?

      Thanks Cap!

“Why is she crying?” 😆 (done in imitation of Casey to her mother, Cindy)

So, tears(?) come pouring out of Casey’s eyes because HHJP showed concern for Casey getting a fair trial. Will she still think it was fair when she gets convicted and sentenced to DP or LWOP?

The ARGUMENTS (Over media Motion) brought Casey to TEARS, and Judge Perry, at one point, became angry.
      (emphasis added by myself)

      The way I see it:
      She is obviously getting worried!

Of course, it IS always for herself…
      No tears for Caylee.
But tears for Inmate Anthony and her NOT getting a FAIR trial.

In my opinion, this is all in attempt to stall the trial from moving forward…

She is probably FREAKIN’ knowing that 12 (plus 8) people will be watching, and judging HER!

And she is NOT in her NATURAL element here!

No stripper poles, no scantily clad ladies to bump and grind up against, and the type of BAR is all wrong…

No booze, dope, music and dancing here…

She knows there is NO WAY she’ll be able to win them all over.

Especially being that she probably won’t be testifying on her own behalf… That probably irks her to the bone….

Oh well – Let the bi-otch cry!
      It’s about time, really…

Not sure why a ‘smiley fellow’ showed up in the brackets above, but it was meant to be the number 8!

8 Alternates, will be chosen along with the 12 Jury members!

That makes 20 people watching her, hearing the evidence, forming opinions, with 12 that WILL DECIDE and JUDGE and sentence her accordingly…

      • May 2 2011

You know, it may be that reality is hitting her. she was really subdued today – she must be really scared after all the motions of late have failed…. She’s got to know it’s bad for her.

Perry gave an assessment of his ability to find an impartial jury for Casey’s first-degree murder trial.
“In my 31 years in this system, I have never, never seen a case that has garnered this much publicity,” Perry stated.

At issue, was a motion filed by some media outlets questioning Judge Perry’s policy to keep the location of jury selection confidential.

A media attorney argued that Judge Perry is violating Florida public records laws and the first amendment.

    Judge Perry seemed irked.
“How many capital cases have you tried?” Perry asked the media attorney.
“I have tried none,” she said.
“How many capital jury cases have you attempted to select a jury in?” Perry asked.
“I have none your honor,” she replied.
“OK, you may continue,” Perry said.

Perry denied the media motion, but acknowledged that an appeal to his decision is possible, if not likely.

In a shocking revelation, Perry said if the media motion is heard by an appeals court, it could set the stage for a six-month delay in the trial to gather evidence on jury selection.

Under that scenario, Perry says a gag order would be in place to prevent lawyers from talking about the case or releasing documents.

There was also an issue of whether the judge will allow jurors to see controversial air tests that prosecutors said prove there was a body in Casey’s trunk.

Judge Perry said the issue is complicated and a ruling will, “come when it comes.”

I want this trial to get started on time so I hope the media backs off. However it would be funny for a gag order to be in place, poor Jose would have to shut his mouth. Wonder how long he could go before violating the gag order? 1 week or 2? 🙂

    Don’t forget to vote!

As I watched the hearing today, it was quite apparent judge Perry meant business. The way we communicate today is much different than previous years. The O.J. trial, and the Scott Peterson trial were mostly seen on TV. Today the internet has as much or more impact on communication than any other means available. Because of the internet, and cell phones people knew about Bin Laden’s death before it was released on the national news. Judge Perry knows this, and is trying to the best of his ability to seat a jury for this case. As I looked at the faces of Mr. Baez, and Cindy Anthony in the court today ……….I could not help thinking these two have had their mugs plastered on TV, for almost three years. They alone have contributed more to the media frenzy than any other sources. Baez and Casey sold pictures and video’s to the national news media for $250,000, just this week Baez had hours of coverage on True TV. Cindy and George received $20, 0000, for their appearance on television. This is so wrong. Hopefully laws will be passed to prevent this type of conduct in the future. As Casey was crying in the courtroom today, it was apparent she realized the severity and magnitude of what is approaching in her upcoming future. As I watched the hearing today, it was quite apparent judge Perry meant business. Wonderful comments, Rob! And, it does seem really wrong that Casey should profit from the photos and videos… it seems so wrong, but I believe it’s lawful for her to profit before she’s convicted. After she’s convicted, no profits will belong to her.
The case has become it’s own profit machine. People are making money from this case…. Orlando will profit with all the revenue from the media in town over the duration of the case.

HI. I noticed again last night that every time Casey cries, she seems to only wipe the tears away from her right eye and then she looks at her finger to see what’s on it. I wonder if she’s just checking to see if her makeup is running. If someone were really crying, they would wipe the tears from both eyes and probably grab a tissue or a handkerchief. It seems very put on to me.

It all starts live in court tommorow morning. It hopefully brings justice for Caylee finally. Also, I live in Florida and care nothing about Casey except that I and many other residents here are sick of going broke paying her everyday expenses especially keeping her fed everyday in the jail. Everyday someone else has lost their job, and we can’t afford to (or care to) keep you fat and happy in jail. Oh yes, sorry that you didn’t get to have many young men in your jury that could possibly be stupid and lame enough to think you are pretty just to maybe get you off and think you should live. I know that is what you and your attorneys were hoping for. It didn’t work out that way. I don’t care if it was a mistake or not-you killed your baby and didn’t report it. Hope you are enjoying your days in the limelight until the day real soon when you die. It won’t be soon enough for many of your neighbors here in Florida who, like I said are tired and BROKE from keeping you alive even in jail. Do you realize that you are eating and sleeping better than some of us???I’ve never wished these bad things to anyone before you…When you dream of Caylee do you ever wish that you would have put her up for adoption before so a couple could love and have her that needed a baby so badly? There were many things you could have done before it came to this. You are the most hated person in the world now. RIP SWEET CAYLEE!!
