Shocking!

by Andrea O'Connell

The Charming Dr. Arpad Vass

It was a fine day of testimony for the prosecution in the State v. Casey Anthony!  The testimony of Dr. Arpad Vass, Research Scientist with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (The Body Farm), was just as brilliant today as it was during the Frye hearings.

There is no doubt that the jury reacted well to him – all the “tweets” I read from inside the courtroom, indicated the jurors were keenly interested in his testimony.  Well, not when Baez was doing his cross – that fell flat in most instances, though Baez did okay at times.

Lot’s of Tweets said the jurors were irritated at all the objections from Baez – he was trying to disrupt Vass midstream – just when he was getting to the interesting part of his story / explanation. It was quite a learning experience for me – Dr. Vass breaks it down so easily, too.

Overall, this was extremely damaging testimony.  Dr. Vass said, in regards to the levels of chloroform compounds detected in the analysis of Casey’s car, they were higher than he’s ever seen in any decomposition analysis he’d done or seen.  Higher than anything he’d seen in all the twenty years he has been working in his field.

There are trace elements of chloroform found in the decomposition process, but never the high spikes as was found in the trunk of the car.  Dr. Vass said, he was shocked!

There was talk of the stain in the trunk, too.  Baez tried very hard to get Vass say that the stain could be from hamburger meat, or another kind of meat – presumably found in the garbage in the car.

Dr. Vass was an excellent witness – likeable, funny, and incredibly interesting.

An important realization for me, and I bet the jurors got this too, Caylee was likely in the trunk of that car without being wrapped in any kind of plastic bag.  That’s the only way the volatile fatty acids that are released during the initial phase of decomposition could have seeped into the carpet in the form of a stain.

It just hit me today, I guess.  I never visualized it – didn’t want to, but today I realized what really happened.

I hate to talk about this.

I’m relieved it’s late and past my bedtime.   Sweet dreams to all of you dreamers of justice for Caylee.

…Of chloroform, he said this is produced when a human body decomposes but added that in this case the level was shockingly high, the highest he had ever seen. The obvious inference is that Anthony had used the substance on her daughter, and in fact evidence found near the crime scene indicates that Caylee was actually injected with the drug. 😥

I can’t relate the needle to the car. There’s no proof ie: fingerprints to marry the two different crime scenes together. If Caylee was injected with chloroform it would have happened before she was discarded right?, in order for the hypothosis of high levels in the trunk, to work. No matter who we are talking about, the murder weapon that of a needle, wouldn’t have been left with the body, in my opinion. I don’t think the needle has much weight, but the computer searches are pretty incriminiating, since we have now heard more than 5 people state the smell from the car was that of a decomposing body, plus experts testifying about the levels of chloroform in parts of the contents in the trunk. I think the Jury get the fact that Caylee was in the trunk. The
big hurdle for the |State is to convince the Jury that chloroform was used intentionally, not by accident, to prove 1st degree.

I saw a commentor had said that Baez’ constant objections could have caused the jurors to wonder what it was he was trying to hide.

It was a good day for testimony. Dr. Arpad Vass is very enthusiastic about his life’s work! 😛 As many surmised, the jurors seemed to like him alot. It was kinda cute that he would stare at the ornate ceiling during those sidebars! lol

Doctor Vass was brilliant; He makes a difficult subject easy to comprehend. Baez, as usual came across as a not to sharp Mafioso. I do wonder why he does not use Dorothy Simms to question the expert witness, isn’t that her specialty? Of course Baez has an ego the size of the Grand Canyon, he loves the limelight!

Thrown in the trunk like so much trash, drugged out and unable to cry to cici and jojo for help while her “moty” was in the apt ballin’ her BF of the hour….
I believe that is what happened i think caylee was throwing a fit to go home and casey wasn’t puttin up with anymore disrespect out of ANY of them she’d had enough…not HER fault if only they’d towed the line as they’d been manipulated to do, the NERVE of sindy confronting casey about stealing from her grandparents (insert sarcasm),,,,, bet skanky told her “you’ll NEVER see her again when she stormed out too… JMHO

It is interesting to note…I saw Linda K Baden yesterday on InSession and she said she wrote the questions for Baez’s cross.

Hi Katydid… Well, that’s really interesting! I hadn’t realized that… I turn the sound off when I see Linda Kenney Baden or her husband. They are both so annoying!
      Anyway, thanks for the info…

Just got a chance to read your post now, Andrea!

I’m right along with you, and the upset felt at what in all actuality proabaly happened in that trunk…

Once that ‘liner’ is physically EXAMINED by the Jurors, I bet they’ll see the silouhette of the tiny body in the fetal position…

That is why JUSTICE for little Caylee is so important here!

What happened to her, was just plain EVIL!

    The deal WILL be sealed!
Soon enough – The VERDICT will come down!
And a fitting SENTENCE shall follow.

    Of that, I AM sure!

Thanks to Sherry for the insightful link to the ‘Digital Journal’ – Good read!

Just a quick hi to you and all… I have been a busy bee lately. Well, to be honest, I just got a new toy that’s taking up a lot of my time last night and tonight! I was going to get an IPad2 last night, but then I saw the XOOM Android (about $300 cheaper!) and I’m enjoying it so much…. It’s keeping me up late… not good!
